Back when I was a suit in the film business, the sweetening process meant that you took the sound track of a dumb TV show like say: “Falconcrest” transfered if over to a recording studio and Sweetened the audio with music and beefed up sound effects. Now it is easy to do with Protools and Imovie.

When I asked our drum carving masters in Ghana what type tree the wood the drums were carved from, he discussed it with his people and translated the word into several languages until he finally came up with: “Trinaboa” means “Drum tree wood”

The Second Line rhythm is a creation unique to New Orleans. The rhythm evolved from the grooves that were played at the traditional Jazz funeral procession from the French Quarter all the way out to the cemetary. On the way out, the groove was somber and slow, but on the way back the groove was bright and happy. The dancers carry white umbrellas and parisols out front of the procession. The drummers and musicians are in the second line.
