Route 66 Soundtrack
Middle of the night I wake up to my internal Jukebox brain soundtrack just humming along playing the early Sixties theme song to the TV show, Route 66. None of you will remember this but I enjoyed it. Nelson Riddle composed it. Nothing better than to sit and watch these two guys cruise around America in a cool convertible Corvette. It was a time like no other in the history of the world. Gas was real cheap. Maintenance on the Corvette was routine and the roads were not crowded. At least on the show. The women featured in guest appearances were treated well. Pretty much good writing. This was a time before women were becoming aware of pathways to empowerment. The troubling undercurrent of racism, bigotry, political injustice really didn’t enter directly into the scripts yet. At least my preteen sensibility did not pick up on it. It was a joyride across America with a little danger maybe thrown in for spice. Vistas were expansive. Nelson Riddle captured the freedom of the open road with his light touch orchestration. This was a perfect America where everyone was on their best behavior. The Corvette was the real star of the show.
