While My Guitar Gently Weeps
George Harrison wrote it and a lot of people have covered it. Prince did a great version. Eric Clapton played on an original recording but didn’t get credit. The rest of the Beatles weren’t that impressed with the song, But go figure. In our weekly drumming meditation groups in Seasons our ethnic gift store on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica we had one participant who was blind. She was a gifted singer and cohort of the blind academy in L.A. She always showed up with her seeing eye dog that would quietly lie next to her as we drummed. She related a story about George Harrison. She went to see see her doctor and sat patiently in his waiting room with other patients. Since she is totally blind she really did not interact with any of the other patients waiting for their turn with the doctor. When it was finally her turn, she entered the examining room and was guided to a seat. The doctor made a slight chuckle and asked her, Did she realize she had been sitting next to George Harrison for the last twenty minutes? She had no idea that he was next to her. She wanted to meet him but the opportunity had passed. We can never know when inspiration and genius are next to us. Just trust that it is there and make the best of it.
