Chuck E’s In Love

Chuck E’s In Love

Rickie Lee Jones penned this great song back in the Seventies and it still holds up. I met Chuck E. Weiss one night in Sherman Oaks at John Herron’s telling how he met Tom Waits at an open mic where
Tom sang folk songs; “Five hundred miles” he imitated this milktoast valley kid with some level of scorn, but then Chuck said the next week at the open mic Tom now sounded like an aged jazz musician from New Orleans. “He stole my whole routine!” Chuck exclaimed. Chuck had come to L.A. from New Orleans and was a gifted second line-drummer and overall great player. He had a run of success with a club band called “The Goddam Liars” He was a real character.
