Weeki Wachee Spring, Florida has been the location of a live underwater mermaid show since the Nineteen Thirties. The fresh water Spring is about 200 hundred feet deep.
This historic site is in danger of going under unless someone decides to save this great piece of Americana.
The mermaid show has been in many movies and television shows including Route 66. Elvis visited Weeki Wachi in the fifties. The pictures in the mermaid museum show many generations of mermaids that have performed at Weeki Wachi. It's amazing.
I met several former mermaids at some drumming meditation workshops that I was invited to conduct on the Florida Gulf Coast about two hours North of Tampa, Florida. Click on the Quicktime movie on the right!
Here we are about twenty five feet down. You can see how clear the water is. This water is some of the cleanest in the U.S.
I am holding Crystal the mermaid at forty feet under the water with two African drums!

The Castle is part of the ongoing productions of the Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson as well as other performances like Pocahantas meets the Little Mermaid.
The mermaids have to learn how to breath through specially designed air hoses at extreme depths. They are excellent swimmers and stay submerged for hours without coming up to the surface. They also are great underwater dancers.
Going Deep to find hidden treasure, drums and a mermaid. This experience was very deep for me...
This would be a wonderful place for a retreat. I would like to have our drumming meditation retreats here. Let me know what you think!email: buddyrsh@ix.netcom.com
Here I am with Crystal dry and inside the theatre where the people can watch the shows. Complete with choreographed music.
